COM 220 - Film Analysis

In this course, students will learn to identify and analyze key elements of film In order to understand how films construct meaning and engage audiences, students will be introduced to the basic formal elements of film; narrative, mise-en-scene, cinematography, sound and editing. We will also examine the ways that social, cultural and technological forces shape and are shaped by the cinema. The course will expose students to a variety of film styles and genres, including both classic and contemporary examples. The class includes readings, screenings and short writing assignments.
