REL 415 - Ancient Near Eastern and Biblical Law

This course will provide an overview of the earliest laws in human history. Examining various genres from Anatolia, Mesopotamia, and Israel, we will compare these law codes, as well as the development of particular ideas, over time. We will also place the laws in their broader context, discussing their implementation (or lack thereof), and what these laws reflect about the societies from which they arise.
