A coaching minor will provide students with the opportunity to gain more formal coaching education through an interdisciplinary approach. The minor will prepare students to: 1) gain a basic understanding of exercise science, 2) gain a basic understanding of designing and implementing safe and effective year around strength and conditioning programs, 3) enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of concepts and techniques of coaching and their application to the achievement of important objectives of athletes, 4) explore the interrelationships among sports and social, psychological, cultural, political, and economic forces, and how these forces shape sports organizations and activities, and 5) explore psychological and psychobiological responses to physical activity and exercise.
